Chief Ken Bergsma
Liet. Ken Bergsma

Mount Vernon Police Department's vision and ultimate goal is "Safe and Enjoyable Community Living."  Unfortunately, a society free of crime, violence, and accidental injury is unrealistic.  It is, therefore the mission of this Department "to seek and find ways to affirmatively promote, preserve, and deliver a feeling of security, safety, and productive quality services for all citizens and visitors in our community."

Following are the four key points encompassing our policing philosophy

  • Crime prevention - our number one operational priority.
  • Open and honest communication between citizens and the Department.
  • Adaptability in how we address and problem-solve neighborhood issues.
  • Shared responsibility – To police effectively, the Department needs assistance from the community.

I believe by working together we can make long-term quality of life improvements in our City, and encourage your feedback and suggestions on how we might improve policing services in this community.

Thank your for visiting our website.
