Role of the Planning Commission

 

The City of Mount Vernon Planning Commission is an advisory body consisting of seven members appointed by the Mayor to provide advice and recommendations on land use issues at the local level.  The seven members are Chairperson Denny Legro, Vice-chairperson Warren Cheney,  Tom Twedt, Gary Molenaar, Mark Hulst, Donnie Keltz and Al Lyon. The Planning Commission shall review and act on the following:

 

Comprehensive Plan: Duties related to the Comprehensive Plan. Recommendations to City Council regarding amendments after holding a public hearing,

 

Shoreline Master Program Amendments: Recommendations to City Council regarding Shoreline Master Program Amendments after holding a public hearing,

 

Area-Wide Zoning: The Planning Commission, in conducting area land use analysis, may from time to time recommend to the City Council area-wide zonings to implement the recommended to the Comprehensive Plan.

 

Land Use Regulations and Processes: Upon council request and based upon the goals and policies of the Comprehensive Plan, recommendations to council regarding effective and efficient land use regulations  and processes.

 

The Mount Vernon Planning Commission meets the first and third Tuesday of the month when there are agenda items. The meetings are held at 7:00 pm, Multi-Purpose Room, Police and Court Campus, 1805 Continental Place.
