On August 13, 2007 the Department received credible information from witnesses that a subject, residing in Mount Vernon, was in possession of unlawful explosives.  The description given of the explosives would not be commonly known by an average citizen.  

On August 14, 2007, Mount Vernon Police arrested a 22 year old Mount Vernon man for investigation of Unlawful Possession and Storage of Explosives (RCW 70.74.022(1)) after Mount Vernon Detectives executed a search warrant of his residence in the 1000 block of Carmel Avenue.  The Washington State Patrol Interagency Bomb Squad and an explosive detection canine assisted in the search of the residence in which approximately one pound of explosives was found.

The local office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation was consulted.

The neighborhood was not evacuated, and the arrest took place without incident.
