On October 3, 2005, at 1:21 AM Mount Vernon Police Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of South LaVenture Road regarding a 9-1-1 hang up. A second call came in from the same residence indicating this was an aid call, CPR in progress.
Officers and medical units arrived and were advised that a nine month old male was found in the bath tub. Medical personnel performed CPR on the child who was later transported to the Skagit Valley Hospital, where the child was pronounced dead.
An autopsy was performed on the child on October 3rd which indicated that the child drowned.
Detectives learned through investigation that the nine month old and his two female siblings, ages nine and three were likely left unattended.
On October 6, 2005, at approximately 7:45 PM, the 27-year-old mother of the victim was arrested for investigation of Abandonment of a Dependent Person in the First Degree and was booked into the Skagit County Jail.
The nine and three year old siblings of the victim were taken into protective custody and placed with the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS).
