A Message from Mayor Boudreau
On January 25 & 26, staff, Councilmembers and I spent time meeting with our Legislators in Olympia discussing Legislative Priorities for 2012. It is important for the City of Mount Vernon to maintain good working relationships with our elected officials, and communicate our needs for the City.
The topics that were chosen to discuss included:
- Riverfront Project Phase II – our need for $1.5 million to complete funding for the phase (already have $11.4 million committed)
- Opposition to the Bill EHB 2140 which would transfer that portion of the Liquor Excise Tax Fund that goes to cities and counties to the state general fund– this would return approximately $400,000 of monies back to the state, directly out of the annual City Budget
- Continued funding request for the Washington Wildlife Recreation Program (WWRP)
- Public Records Act Reform
- Felony Jail Medical Bill Liability under RCW 70.48.130 – this represents approximately $50,000 per year in our annual City Budget
- Skagit River Flood Issues
