Position: 3 mos seasonal Parks Maintenance Worker
Salary: $10.82 per hour, 40 hrs per week
Closing Date: April 30, 2010 or until five positions are filled

Job Description:

Purpose and Scope:

This three months seasonal part time position is responsible for maintaining specific park areas and supervising scheduled public activities in assigned areas.  This position reports to the Park Maintenance Lead, Parks Operations Supervisor and/or any other employee with higher classification.

 

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Responsible for the daily maintenance of various park buildings and park grounds as assigned.  Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Picking up litter, emptying garbage cans, weeding flowerbeds, watering trees/plants, painting, mowing, and operating various hand, power tools and equipment.  Must be able to operate a city vehicle, clean restrooms, mop floors, wash windows, prepare baseball/softball fields for play, and communicate with the public in a polite and professional manner.
  • Responsible for completing Incident Report Forms immediately after a situation occurs and routes them to the Parks Supervisor.
  • Other duties as may be assigned. 

Additional Duties and Requirements:

  • Must be able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must be able to work weekends, evenings, and holidays if needed.
  • Must be able to follow detailed instructions.
  • Must be able to complete the duties he/she is assigned in an effective and timely manner.

Equipment/Job Location:

This position uses a variety of hand and power tools and equipment such as shovels, rakes, axes, prunners, chain saws, weedeaters, backpack blowers, edgers, and any type of mower, tractor, trucks, and trailers, and other equipment owned or rented by the City on a daily basis.

 

Required Knowledge and Abilities:

This position must posses the ability to communicate verbally or in writing in a concise, accurate, and courteous manner to public inquiries.  Must be able to provide information within his/her scope of knowledge or refer to an employee of higher classification.  Must be able to perform all work in accordance with out safety procedures manual.  Must be a team worker and maintain good working relationships with other employees.

 

Physical Abilities:

Adequate hearing, correctable vision, manual dexterity to operate power equipment safely in a noisy work environment.  Ability to perform physical labor including operating mechanical equipment for extended periods of time.  Ability to perform tasks involving repetitive arm movements for extended periods of time.  Ability to regularly lift 50 lbs. Equipment and materials in excess of this weight are lifted with assistance.


Qualifications:

 

  • High School Degree of GED
  • Must have experience operating a wide variety of hand and/or power tools and equipment.
  • Must possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License with a driving record acceptable to the City.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Must pass a pre-employment Washington State Patrol background check.
