Disaster PreparednessBack

Disaster can strike quickly and without warning. What would you do if a disaster devastated your home and community? What would you do if family members or co-workers were in need of immediate rescue or medical attention?

Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) training provides basic skills needed to respond to the community's immediate needs in the aftermath of a major disaster:

  • What to expect in a disaster situation
  • How to reduce potential hazards in the environment
  • How to contain fires with a variety of resources
  • How to conduct light search and rescue operations
  • How to cope and help others cope during a disaster
  • How to work as a TEAM

C.E.R.T. training course is 21 hours and requires the participant to

have personal safety equipment and prepare a 72-hour home survival kit.

C.E.R.T. training is a cooperative effort on behalf of the Skagit County Department of Emergency Management, the Mount Baker Chapter of the American Red Cross, and the Mount Vernon Fire Department.
